Red Revenue

1897 Red Revenue surch Large Figure $5, with inverted ovpt variety (Chan 91a), MLH with original gum. Bottom perf shortened. Superb condition with clear impression and sharp perforation. A treasure in Red Revenue issue. According to the study of Huang Kuang Sheng, there should be a larger quantity of $5 with inverted overprint by the time of issuance but most of them were destroyed as remittance slip had to be returned to GPO and destroyed. 2005 (Sep-Oct) Shreves Philatelic Galleries Inc, lot 1632.

1897年紅印花加蓋大字伍圓新，加蓋倒蓋變異（陳目91a），原膠豐潤，輕貼，底邊輕微短齒。印刷清晰，齒孔分明，紅印花中的一大珍品。 按黃光城之研究，認為倒伍圓數量應屬不少，但因匯銀執據於兌付後應依規定繳總局銷毀，故今天存世者可遇不可求。2005年9-10月Shreves Philatelic Galleries Inc拍品號1632。
