Description
1878 Customs Large Dragon 3ca and 5ca Thin Paper Earliest known Large Dragon and Hong Kong combination cover from Peking to Paris, France via Shanghai, Hong Kong and Brindisi. Joint British and French Post Offices handled piece of mail. Earliest known 8ca rate on cover to Europe. Earliest known Large Dragon cover bearing Customs Shanghai cds in black. Domestic rate 8ca tied by Peking town seal obliterators, covered the domestic Customs postage and the cost of sending the mail through the British post office where Hong Kong QV 8c vertical pair added and canceled by Shanghai "S1" obliterator with IG of Customs Peking cds and "PAID" chop both in blue alongside. A magnificent showpiece in all dimensions, ex Warren Kauder (1953) and Ryohei Ishikawa (1971)
