ISSUE FROM SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS—ONLY TWO OTHER 1847 COVERS ARE KNOWN
FROM THIS TEXAS POST OFFICE.
This cover is addressed "To His Excelly P. H. Bell, City of Austin
Texas" . Bell served as the third governor of Texas, from December
21, 1849, to November 23, 1853.
According to United States 1847 Issue: A Cover Census by Thomas J.
Alexander, Texas received 7,900 5c stamps. Only 14 1847 Issue
covers are recorded used from any Texas town, including one 5c and
two 10c covers postmarked at San Antonio.
