VERY FINE. AN IMMENSELY RARE FOUR-COLOR FRANKING OF THE INDIA 1854 ISSUE, COMPRISING THE "COMPLETE SET" OF FOUR VALUES. ONE OF THE MAJOR RARITIES OF THE INDIA FIRST ISSUE, WITH ONLY FOUR "SET" COVERS RECORDED. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH EACH VALUE NEATLY ARRANGED ON A SMALL COVER ADDRESSED TO CHINA.
We record four covers franked with at least one example of each value issued as part of the 1854 First Issue. These include:
1) Nov. 30, 1855 folded letter with -1/2a (2), 1a, 2a, and 4a from Bombay to Canton, China, the cover offered here
2) Dec. 1855 cover with -1/2a (2), 1a, 2a (2), and 4a from Singapore to Ireland, ex Tay Peng Hian
3) Apr. 1, 1856 folded cover (missing some parts) with -1/2a (11), 1a (8), 2a, and 4a from Chingleput to London, offered in lot 140
4) 1855 cover with -1/2a (2), 1a (2), 2a, and 4a from unknown location to Ireland, ex "Emerald" and Spink 2011 sale where it realized £100,000 (plus buyer's premium)
