China, 1897, Large Figures wide surcharge on Dowager, 1st printing, 10c on 12ca brown orange, the famous "Golden Dragon" (Chan 54. Scott 45), an absolutely superb example of this iconic stamp, one of the true great rarities of the Qing Dynasty, displaying vivid, true first issue color, remarkably fresh with excellent centering, with full pristine original gum, which shows just the slightest evidence of hinging; a few roughish/shortish perfs at right mentioned solely for accuracy, otherwise Very Fine+, easily one of the finest examples attainable, worthy of placement into a top-level collection, with 2012 Experts & Consultants Ltd. certificate. Estimate HK$ 300,000 - 400,000.
