Description

Sarawak. 1860 (11 May) envelope ex the "Mrs Johnson" correspondence "via Marseilles" to Ilminster, showing superb "post office/sarawak" circular handstamp with manuscript date inserted, bearing India 2a. and 4a. centrally and clearly cancelled by "B/172" obliterator in transit with light Singapore datestamp (23? May) in red on reverse; the face panel with some ageing and small tear at foot, the reverse with one side panel missing. Extremely rare and undoubtedly one of the finest frankings from this period.
