Description

60 reis black, Early Impression, the horizontal sheet marginal pair and horizontal sheet marginal strip of six showing the sheet margins at both left and at right, applied to top sheet of Judicial document weighing between 15 and 16 ounces dated 26 Mar 1846 – the Bull’s Eyes paying a 480 réis rate from Itaborai to Rio de Janeiro, uncancelled as the document was sent by a special court messenger, with large margins on the strip of six and the pair just shaved on one stamp and with scissor cut in margin only, some typical worm holes. Reply document included with 1844/46 30 r. grey-black, a single example applied above a 60 r. black block of twelve (2 x 6) used on the return of the Judicial document from Rio de Janeiro to Itaborai dated 4th April 1846, all with just touched to mostly large margins all round, one stamp with worm hole, tied by rimless "CORREIO GERAL DE CORTE" circular datestamps dated 5th May 1846 in black. Illustrated and discussed by Everaldo Santos FRPSL in the London Philatelist, Volume 124, Oct 2015, where there is a full discussion on the usages of both Bull's Eye usages and later multiples applied to judicial forms for pre-payment, this item illustrated on page 361. Copies of the article are enclosed with the lot. An extraordinary and fabulous piece of stunning appearance and enormous rarity. Unique. Reference: Illustrated in "Bull's Eyes on Covers" by B. Juchert on page 279
