British Solomon Islands. The "Foljambe" Correspondence. ...more
British Solomon Islands. The "Foljambe" Correspondence. Cecil
Foljambe was a midshipman on H.M.S. "Curacao" on a round the world
voyage between 1862 and 1867. The entire correspondence was well
documented in the "Philatelist" in December 1966 and January 1967,
copies of which are included with the lot. The date quoted at the
beginning is the date the letter (removed by the original vendor)
were written.. 1865 (27 Aug.) envelope addressed to Viscountess
Milton, Worksop marked "Via Marseilles", bearing New South Wales
Diadem perf 13 1d. (4) and De La Rue 1d. (3), all cancelled with
Sydney 21 October duplex - another two stamps removed. The original
single 56-sided letter commenced "Cruizing amongst the Solomon
Group". (Estimate £300 - £400)

duplicated accumulation including mint sets in vertical pairs and
singles, used sets (2, one on piece with Shortlands c.d.s.), a
range of unused/mint multiples including ½d. complete sheet
(faults) and blocks of fifty, eighteen, twelve (4), six (3), four
(9), 1d. blocks of twelve, six and four and 2d. block of thirty;
½d. and 1d. with part Gavutu seal cancels; 2½d. (12, seven used),
5d. (18, ten used including a block of four), 6d. (26 including a
block of four, and nineteen used including three blocks of four)
and 1/- (9, six used including one with Shortlands c.d.s.;
condition mixed as to be expected with a lot of this nature

mint/unused accumulation in a ring binder including a large number
of mint multiples, including ½d. blocks of twelve, six and four
(2), 1d. blocks of twelve and four (5), 2d. blocks of twenty-five,
ten, nine, six and four (14), 2½d. mint blocks of six (2), five and
four (5), 5d. mint (155 including blocks of twelve, eight six and
four) and used (36 including a block of four), 6d. mint (129
including blocks of four) and used (23 including blocks of four)
and 1/- mint (127 including blocks of eight and four) and used
(30); other items of note include ½d.mint marginal strip of four
and a corner pair imperforate between stamp and margin at right,
and a horizontal pair with vertical perfs double, and 1d. used with
double perfs at right. Condition a little mixed as should be
expected with a lot of this nature (Estimate £3000 - £6000)
