Long Island, 1916, 2½p on 1pi Violet & Buff (SG 3). Original gum,
minor h.r., deep rich colors on fresh paper, minute pinholes on
stops after "R" and "I" from typewriter VERY FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY
RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1916 2 1/2-PENCE OVERPRINT ON THE
TURKISH REVENUE. ONLY 25 WERE PRINTED WITH AROUND THIRTEEN UNUSED
EXAMPLES RECORDED. Of the 25 were printed, Gibbs records just
thirteen unused and five used (including four on cover or cover
back). With 1992 B.P.A. certificate. SG £8,000

A spectacular and wonderful exhibition item, being the only complete sheet of this stamp in private hands (another from the same plate is in the NPM) and including the only available example of the ‘Rvevue’ error.
