Volume 6 of this catalogue illustrates mail services and postal rates from 1861 to 2000: the epochal changes in communication one of which occurred under our nose but which no one seems to have noticed; the story of the so-called letter mail is told through its objects, concessions, services, and their costs in 140 years; postal orders and other innovations, including banking ones; parcel post, that is how, for international reasons, the post office competed with private individuals; electrical services, new technologies, via wire or wireless, relevant to communication; licensed services, where it is shown how it happened to have to pay not to get but to perform a service.

I sei capitoli nei quali è suddivisa l'opera (In Italia, Guerra e Dopoguerra, Fuori d'Italia, Gli usi particolari, Gli annulli, I fiscali) prendono in esame le origini, le tariffe, i tipi e varietà, gli usi di quei valori emessi a partire dal 1906, il cui soggetto è costituito dall'effige di re Vittorio Emanuele III, e il cui nome ricorda l'artista autore del disegno, Nestore Leoni.
I francobolli e gli interi postali recanti l'effige a cammeo del re d'Italia furono destinati ai più svariati utilizzi, dalla posta ordinaria a quella espressa, aerea e pneumatica, fino ai pubblicitari, i BLP, e alle sovrastampe per i territori acquisiti dopo la Grande Guerra (inclusi i segnatasse di Bolzano), le colonie, i possedimenti e gli uffici all'estero. L'effige venne poi utilizzata per le marche fiscali fino agli anni Cinquanta del secolo scorso, quando l'Italia era ormai una repubblica e il re era morto.
Servendosi di centinaia di pezzi tra buste, interi e francobolli, illustrati a colori, l'autore riesce a ripercorrere la "grande" storia dei primi decenni del '900 attraverso le tante "piccole" storie che da essi emergono. Per maggior chiarezza, in ogni capitolo è presente la tabella con i valori emessi, il periodo d'uso e l'utilizzo.
THE "LEONI"
A VOYAGE THROUGHOUT PHILATELY AND POSTAL HISTORY
The six chapters (In Italy, War and Post-war period, outside Italy, Peculiar uses, Cancellations, Fiscals) examine the origins, the rates, the types and varieties, the uses of those values issued from 1906, whose subject consists of the effigy of king Vittorio Emanuele III, and whose name brings to mind the artist author of the drawing, Nestore Leoni.
The postage stamps and the postal stationery bearing the cameo effigy of the king of Italy were intended for the most diverse uses, from ordinary to express, air and pneumatic mail, up to advertisement stamps, the so called BLP, and to the overprints for the territories obtained after the Great War (including Bolzano postage due stamps), Italian colonies, domains and offices outside Italy. The effigy was then used for fiscals until the 50's of last century, when Italy had become a Republic and the king was dead.
By using hundreds of pieces including covers, postal stationery and postage stamps, illustrated in colour, the author is able to retrace the "great" history of the early decades of the XX century by means of the many "small" stories arising from them. For the sake of clarity, every chapter contains a chart with the values issued, the period and the relevant kind of use.

The volume is completely illustrated with archive photos representing images of documents, postcards, postage stamps, cancellations, in addition to the documentation of the main activities carried out by the Federation from its origins up to present days.
Many events are recorded here, such as the agreements with the Ministry of Communications, the collaboration with Poste Italiane, the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education, leaflets for kids, the continuous activity in schools, the monitoring of philatelic fakes, the agreement with a company of on-line sales to remove offers of fake material.

Suddiviso in 25 capitoli, dedicati ciascuno ad uno specifico argomento o tipologia di documento postale, il libro riporta le riproduzioni dei relativi documenti per categoria d'appartenenza.

The work, accompanied by about 600 colour illustrations and relevant wide captions, was conceived by an idea of Beppe Ermentini, with the purpose of narrating curious, bizarre, unexpected and hidden aspects of correspondence to the lovers of the world of mail, suggesting the watching of postal documents, also from a point of view broader than the strictly philatelic or postal- historical one.
Unusual, strange, beautiful, curious covers and postcards, photos and notes that can reserve interesting surprises.
Divided into 25 chapters, each one devoted to a specific subject or kind of postal document, the book shows the reproductions of the relevant documents by category.
