9737 Unit, Sakai Section, Borneo Expeditionary 37th Army, North
Borneo, to Yamagata-ken, Japan that has been sent contrary to
regulations although approved by the censor with ‘Dispatch of this
Letter permitted’ written in red handwriting. The original
contents, five pages of which four have a picture illustration at
the top, accompany the envelope. Mail enclosed in an envelope with
permission to send is exceptionally rare. A very fine and extremely
rare North Borneo cover and contents. Ex Ken Clark

1907 incoming envelope from Canterbury, England to Tenom, franked
with a 1d cancelled Canterbury JA 28 07. Addressed to the Sapong
Estate, which was the largest rubber plantation in Borneo at that
time, it has a Jesselton 8 MAR 07 transit cancel on the back. The
addressee had returned to England and the letter was put back in
the post and received a TENOM 16 MAR 07 datestamp. A further
Jesselton 25 MAR 07 transit cancel is on the back of the cover. It
was sent back to the Sapong Offices in London who then again
re-addressed it to Witham, Essex. A well travelled cover and a rare
incoming item to Tenom

1897 early incoming registered envelope from India to Lahad Datu,
cancelled Karachi City 9 DE 97. A boxed 'Maldirige' handstamp is on
the front of the cover that was applied at Aden. On the back are
Sea Post 11 DE 97, Aden DE 15 97, Singapore JA 3 98 and Sandakan 11
JAN 1898. There was no receiving datestamp as Lahad Datu had not
been issued with a canceller at that time. This cover is believed
to be the earliest recorded incoming cover to Lahad Datu from
outside North Borneo
