Nova Scotia, 1853, 1p Red Brown (1; SG 1). Large to ample margins on each side, tied by barred oval cancel on folded drop letter datelined “Cape John 23 Ap 1857”, entering mail and addressed to Pictou, Pictou (Apr. 25) arrival backstamp EXTREMELY FINE. A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THE 1853 ONE-PENNY RED BROWN ON COVER. ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED DROP LETTERS WITH THE 1853 ONE-PENNY STAMP. Several other single franking 1p covers are recorded but are generally circular rates or military related. Ex “Skywalk”. With 1966 B.P.A. and 1980 E. Diena certificates.
