Description

Germany, Offices in China, 1900, 10pf Red Postal Letter Card, Tientsin Handstamp, Double Overprint, One Inverted (Michel P9 var). Used with two 1900, 5pf Green, Tientsin Handstamp (18; Michel 9), indicia cancelled and stamps tied by three strikes of "Tientsin, Deutsche Post 31/1 01" circular datestamp, addressed to Frau von Warnsdorff in Bradford, England, return address on back from "E. von Warnsdorff, Oberleutnant im 6 Ost-asiatischen Regiment, 1 Kamp", Bradford (Mar. 31) arrival backstamp, the interior letter is written to sender's mother and makes mention of the war (Boxer Rebellion) and the 6th Infantry Regiment, card with minor stain at bottom VERY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED DOUBLE TIENTSIN OVERPRINT WITH ONE INVERTED ON ANY STAMP OR STATIONERY ITEM. AN ENORMOUS GERMAN OFFICES IN CHINA RARITY AND KEY TO BUILDING A WORLD-CLASS COLLECTION OR EXHIBIT. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MAGNOLIA COLLECTION. Ex Dr. Schmidt. Signed Drahn, W.
