1852 15c. black (Type I) and 30c. black (Type II) on medium blue surfaced paper, the 30c. showing variety "X upright at upper left", both used on folded cover from St. Paul to Nantes, with "ST. PAUL ILE DE LA REUNION/8 MAI 1857" despatch c.d.s. on front, endorsed in m/s 'Voie de Suez', with red transit dater "COL. FR./ V. SUEZ AMB A./6 JUIN 1857", arriving Marseilles where the adhesives were cancelled by numeral "1896", and on the reverse with transit and arrival datestamps. Both stamps with even wide margins all round, fresh and fine. Only five such covers are known, but this cover is PROBABLY THE ONLY KNOWN COVER BEARING THE 30c. WITH VARIETY + 15c. A MAJOR RARITY OF FRENCH COLONIAL EMPIRE AND THE CLASSIC PHILATELY IN GENERAL. Sismondo and J.-F. Brun certificates.
