1849, Freimarkenausgabe Cereskopf, Halsschatten in Punkten, 1 Franc orangerot, sogenannte Vermillion, vollrandiges Exemplar in guter Qualität, das durch Nachmalen der Farbe aufgefrischt wurde. Die Entwertung erfolgte durch den "endlosen" Gitterstempel. Der damalige Frankreich-Bundesprüfer Wilhelm Hofinger erläutert in einem Anschreiben an den Auftraggeber, seine Beweggründe die "zweifellos echte Marke" nicht zu signieren, da durch ein erhöhtes Prüfzeichen das extrem rare Stück über Gebühr belastet würde, was sich als durchaus feiner Zug werten lässt. Zusammenfassend handelt es sich hier um eine Originalmarke mit partieller "Verschönerung". Die Vermillion ist "die" große Frankreich-Rarität von einmaliger Schönheit!
