CORFU - VERY EARLY USAGE OF THE 1d BLUE ON COVER TO CEPHALONIA; 22
June 1859 EL (reinforced corner-folds but generally fine) from
Corfu to "Cefalonia" with good 1859 1d Blue (4 close to wide
margins all round; tiny marginal fault at top left) tied by two
overlapping strikes of the 2-ring "CORFU" cds in grey-black with a
further fine strike in blue alongside, having a mainly fine blue
fancy oval Cephalonia arrival d.s. (crease) nearby. An excellent
example of this elusive issue well tied by a handstamp on cover.
[Initialled "AD" beside the stamp and with experts' tiny red mark
and two signatures inside.] Rare and attractive cover with this
short-lived and most attractive Perkins Bacon issue; these stamps
were in use for less than 5 years, as the islands were finally
ceded to Greece on 30 May 1864. Important Exhibition Item.
