Spink 18034 - The Dr Paul Ramsay Collection of Hand Painted Envelopes

Spink are proud to offer this fine collection, generously donated by Dr. Ramsay to the Royal Philatelic Society London to assist with the cost of moving and refurbishing their new offices. The sale includes what is considered to be the earliest hand painted envelope, an 1842 "Going! Going! Gone for 1 penny" from Rev. Smith. Another noteable lot is the 1865 "Letters from Jersey" which is considered to be one of the finest watercolour envelopes, many very talented artists are represented including over 50 by Hugh Rose, most of these are from the famous King Harman correspondence but six are from the fabulous group of covers that Rose painted and addressed to the Prince of Wales. The lavishly illustrated catalogue is sure to be a valuable reference work for many years to come.

In addition to the Hammer Price, the Buyer must pay the Buyer's premium at a rate of 20% of the final Hammer Price.

For Lots marked with(?), (†) or (Ω) VAT is chargeable on the Hammer price and the Buyer's premium at the standard rate (currently 20%).
For Lots marked with (x) VAT is chargeable on the Hammer price at the reduced rate (currently 5%) and on the Buyer's Premium at standard rate (currently 20%).
VAT on Margin scheme lots (identified by the absence of any VAT symbol next to the lot number) is payable at 20% on the Buyer’s premium only.
