Ulrich Felzmann 19th e@uction
May 2nd - 4th, 2018
The auction will begin with an Ancient Roman quinarius coin from the Gallic tribes, followed by a selection of attractive Ancient Greek specimens, including pseudo-autonomous mintages under Claudius or Nero. The Roman Empire offers three surprising variants from the Imperial Era, beginning with a large bronze minted under ruler Tiberius. The lots also include one coin minted under the famous Emperor Nero and an issue by ruler Vespasianus with a black patina.
The auction will then move swiftly into more modern times with a medallion marking the 25th throne jubilee of Ethiopian ruler Haile Selassie I.
From Germany, there is a 1909 plaque minted by Lange commemorating the 500th anniversary of Leipzig University and an aluminium medallion by W. Berg-Lüdenscheid. Far East enthusiasts will be delighted at the inclusion of a rare miniature of the Boxer Rebellion commemorative coin.
The online auction (3 to 4 May) offers a colourful mixture of well-preserved philatelic rarities from all collection fields. The auction will get underway with airmail and Zeppelin mail, including an unusual cover from the 11th South America Flight in 1935. The impressive range of material on the Overseas front not only include specimens from the People’s Republic of China but also rare covers from the USA and Russia. Back in Europe, four values of the Hungarian 1-10 P Madonna are sure to surprise and delight enthusiasts. The highlight among the Old German States lots is likely to be the Bavarian 1-Krone grey black with a plate flaw. German Empire collectors will find much to interest them, especially covers from the time of high inflation. “German dependencies from post offices abroad and colonies” includes the winding-up (begun in the 160th hall auction) of an enormously detailed Upper Silesia collection, where a whole host of specialities and covers are auctioned individually, allowing them to be acquired by separate collectors. A few surprises are provided by “Germany after 1945”, including a number of rare Minister blocks and the popular “Kerstfest” stamp.
