1901 British National Antarctic Expedition post card with pictures
of the’ Main Deck of the Discovery’ with an expedition cancel
‘ANTARCTIC / EXPDN / 1901 / S.S. DISCOVERY’ on the front. The card
was posted in CAPE TOWN (7 OCT 01) and addressed to England. Cape
Town was a short stop on the way to New Zealand where supplies were
replenished. A scarce card from this expedition.

SA: 1918 "Make your 6d fly". THIRD CAPE TOWN FLIGHT card (Large
Wings) franked KGV ½d tied cds 2 NOV A18. Addressed to Cape Town,
the ½d franking paying local postage. Additionally bears an "Our
Day" 3d fundraising label, a scarce use on flown card thus. This
flight was made by Lieut Gearing from Wynberg to Green Point on
Saturday 2nd November. It was not advertised at all resulting in
very few cards being carried. VF, crisply cancelled card perfectly
showing off the 2nd November datestamp, likely the rarest flight
cards of the series.

1926 Imperial Airways Survey Flight post card to London, produced
by “Flight” magazine with their red vignette unusually applied to
the front of the card (instead of the reverse as was usual). This
was tied by an oval "BY SPECIAL AIR MAIL / 16-1-25 / LONDON / CAPE
TOWN" cachet. A Kings Head 2d stamp has been cancelled CAPE TOWN 19
FEB 26. Cobham’s signature is on the back of the card. A very fine
example of this card, posted 2 days after Cobham had arrived in
Cape Town from his flight from London and 7 days before he flew
back to London..

1914 picture post card (Wagon Drift, Orange River) with a Kings
Head ½d cancelled by a superb strike of the previously unrecorded
violet boxed 'POSTAGE FREE / BASE 3A / PASSED BY / CENSOR'. A boxed
Base 3 cachet was in use at Uppington prior to the invasion of
South West Africa in late 1914, but nothing is known where this
BASE 3A was used. The base of the card has fish moth damage, but
still an exceptionally fine strike of this very rare canceller.
