The "SPECIMEN" handstamp is type BEC2 as applied by the Bechuanaland Post Office to their collection of specimen stamps received from the UPU in Bern.
Superb unused horizontal pair (gum washed when removed from folio sheets), the specimen handstamps applied diagonally.
Rare, probably unique, outstanding on this issue.

"Z". Top left stamp distinctive "Thin top stroke to capital Z". The
Daun's Z variety on the bottom right stamp. Suggested plating from
Settings 2 & 3 positions r2-3/2-3 by reference to 3r's in
Griffith-Jones collection. Fresh & attractive block. A very rare

Standing cds NO 21 with alongside the Pretoria double triangle
censor mark. Shows also the dated overlap portion of Censor Seal
type 7D and in violet the initialled double triangle Port Elizabeth
censor cachet. Backstamped 25 Nov on arrival. Lovely markings. VF.
With the volume of mail emanating from Port Elizabeth, the censors
were very busy and used mainly in violet the shallow double
triangle (53x22mm) with or without manuscript initials.
Roussouw/Pirie (1954/5) list only two marks for PE whereas Prime
(2012) records four. Additionally we record in black a double
triangle with large initials T.M. in centre, this on a cover dated
28 JU 01 from PE to Cape Town, the cover in the Dillaway
collection. Prime lists this same censor mark (type MDR 1) for
Modder River?
