Description:
1764: Entire letter from Reval (Tallinn) to Narva, sent half paid at 3 kopeks by courier, with the writer's sister paying the courier a further 3 kopeks on receipt. Note addressing with Cyrillic script denoting addressee at lower left. Private Mail was first permitted by a decree of Peter the Great in 1713; however the postal reforms deteriorated until Catherine the Great instituted improvements in 1763. A remarkable entire.
